Opening ceremony- Hong Kong style

Last nights opening ceremony was one to remember! Hong Kong style ceremonies include interesting traditions and a lot of food! Here is a run down of the evening in pictures....

It all started with realising there would be a LOT of food which kept coming out until about 10.30pm!

We were honoured to have speeches from VIPs including Princess Benedikte of Denmark who truly believes that investing in young people is the key to creating a better future.

Then there was the Eye-dotting Ceremony, and I'm sure your knowledge on that was the same as ours! It is a tradition which is done at the start of important events in Hong Kong! The VIPS, including the Cheif Exec of Hong Kong, dotted the eyes on the huge puppet dragons and they came to life.

Newly appointed member organisations and those who had changed entity were given their official certificates, many were ecstatic about this, which was amazing to see what being part of WAGGGS means to them.

Lots of entertainment followed including...

Chinese face changing performance; little more to say but he was a magician with many faces (but at least it means he can easily control his face!!).

Chinese Orchestra which was made up of Hong Kong Girl Guides

Chinese Dance, which again was Hong Kong Girl Guides

And last by no means last were Uangel Voice, famous Korean singers, which some members got very excited about before they came on! The did a range of songs, but when Abba came on there was no stopping those dancing feet! By the end the majority of the audience were on their feet. They even serenaded Princess Benedikte in one of their songs. I was asked to be a flower girl to thank them with some others, so after their last song up we went to hand them a rose! So I have now met a famous Korean band!

The food finally stopped coming out and after the final entertainment we said good night to our new friends we met during dinner, and congregated for our late night delegation meeting to discuss tomorrow's business briefly!

A great opening ceremony with the Hong Kong twist, and a lot of food!
